Democrats have announced that they will propose a legislative package ahead of taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3, 2019. It will include one bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through Feb. 8, with $1.3 billion for border security. It doesn’t include money for the president’s desired wall on the border.
Republicans have been willing to negotiate on the budget as long as it includes the money for a border wall. Illegal aliens are coming to our country, claiming asylum and staying. We are losing billions of dollars paying for their healthcare, education, and for them to use our roads. Building the wall will force migrants to follow our laws and enter our country legally, which they will be able to do as long as they intend to contribute to our society instead of taking advantage of it.
It is unknown when Democrats will come to their sense and make an agreement with Republicans to fund the wall, until then it appears the federal government will remain shutdown.
